PM Modi Presents Vision for Collaboration in the Indian Ocean During Seychelles Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated his vision to transform the Indian Ocean into an “Ocean of Opportunity” while visiting Seychelles. Speaking at various engagements, he highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation in economic, security, and environmental initiatives among nations surrounding the Indian Ocean.
During the visit, PM Modi was awarded the highest civilian honor of Seychelles, the Grand Officer of the Order of the Republic, in recognition of his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. He met with President Wavel Ramkalawan, where both leaders expressed eagerness to deepen ties, focusing on areas such as trade, security, and sustainable development.
In a speech delivered to the Seychelles Parliament, Modi emphasized the historical and cultural connections shared between India and Seychelles, stating, “We meet not as strangers, but as old friends.” This sentiment reflects the longstanding ties that date back to the colonial era, which have grown into a significant partnership in contemporary times.
The Prime Minister also discussed pressing issues related to climate change, advocating for fair climate action that considers the unique challenges faced by island nations. He underscored Indias commitment to collaborate with Seychelles and other countries in pursuing sustainable solutions to climate change, which disproportionately affects vulnerable nations.
This visit marks a significant chapter in India-Seychelles relations, aimed at fostering regional stability and enhancing economic opportunities within the Indian Ocean region. The discussions and agreements reached during this visit are expected to pave the way for future collaborations on various fronts, including maritime security and environmental sustainability.
