CIC Requests CBSE to Establish Timeline for Distribution of Answer Sheets and Marks

The Central Information Commission (CIC) has recommended that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) develop and implement a structured timeline for the release of student assessment records. This recommendation follows a request from a Class 12 student seeking her marks after examinations were cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The CIC highlighted the importance of establishing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to alleviate student anxiety and enhance transparency in the assessment process. The commission underscored that timely access to examination results is crucial for students, particularly during the uncertainties caused by exam cancellations.

In addition to creating this SOP, the CBSE has been instructed to publish the policy on its official website to ensure it is accessible to all students and stakeholders. Furthermore, the commission has mandated that the specific student in question be provided with her requested assessment information without delay.

The CBSE, which oversees academic curriculum and examination standards for schools across India, has previously faced scrutiny regarding the timely dissemination of exam-related information. Implementing these measures could significantly improve communication and trust between the board and the student community.
