Family of Aaron Lazar Initiates GoFundMe Campaign Targeting $500,000
Broadway actor Aaron Lazar, known for his role in the musical “Company,” has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease, since 2022. The condition has significantly impacted his quality of life, resulting in the loss of mobility and necessitating reliance on a ventilator for breathing assistance. He now requires full-time care to manage his daily needs.
In light of these challenges, Lazar’s family is launching a fundraising campaign to raise $500,000 to cover ongoing medical expenses, which currently exceed $300,000 annually. The funds will help support Lazars treatment and provide financial stability for his teenage sons during this difficult time. ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control and ultimately impacting a patients ability to speak, eat, move, and breathe. The average life expectancy for individuals diagnosed with ALS ranges from 2 to 5 years after diagnosis, underscoring the urgency of Lazar’s situation and the importance of community support.
