Maharashtra Mandates Marathi Language Education for Grades 1-10; Schools Advised of Potential Consequences for Non-Compliance
The Maharashtra government has announced that Marathi will now be a mandatory subject for students from Classes 1 to 10 across all affiliated educational institutions. Education Minister Dada Bhuse emphasized the need for compliance, stating that schools failing to adhere to this directive could face strict penalties.
In conjunction with this policy, the government will implement a statewide inspection initiative to ensure adherence to the new regulations. Minister Bhuse also reiterated the governments dedication to promoting the Marathi language and culture within the educational curriculum, highlighting plans to enhance educational material related to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in school textbooks.
This decision aligns with broader efforts in India to preserve regional languages and promote cultural heritage in educational settings. The move aims to strengthen linguistic identity among students in Maharashtra.
