UPI Transactions Increase by 1.2%, Reaching 760 Million

In June, the volume of digital payment transactions experienced a slight decline, with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions reporting a decrease of 2.1% compared to the previous month. Despite this month-to-month drop, daily UPI activity remained strong, reflecting ongoing user engagement and interest in digital payment solutions.

On a year-over-year basis, UPI continues to demonstrate significant growth, underscoring its status as a key player in Indias digital payment ecosystem. Other payment systems, including FASTag and Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), also recorded sequential declines during the same period. However, when evaluated on an annual basis, the trends exhibit variability, indicating a rapidly evolving landscape in digital payment methods.

According to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI transactions reached approximately 2.8 billion in June 2023, with a total value exceeding INR 5 trillion. This highlights the resilience of digital payment platforms as they adapt to changing consumer preferences and market conditions. Experts note that the fluctuations observed in transaction volumes across various platforms may be a natural response to seasonal trends and the introduction of new fintech initiatives aimed at enhancing user experience and expanding accessibility.
