T.N. Chief Minister Vijay Requests Prime Minister Modi to Amend Certain Provisions of the VB-G RAM G Act

### Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Requests Modifications to VB-G RAM G Act

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider relaxing and revising certain provisions of the recently implemented Vikasit Bharat Guarantee (VB-G RAM G) Act. The Chief Minister expressed concerns regarding the unilateral authority granted to the central government under the new legislation, arguing it may impose significant burdens on state finances and disrupt local governance.

The VB-G RAM G Act aims to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), aiming to streamline and enhance rural employment schemes. However, Stalin highlighted that its implementation could lead to an estimated financial burden of around ₹5,000 crore ($600 million) on the state, a concern shared by various officials within the Tamil Nadu government.

The Chief Minister articulated his apprehensions about the centralization of decision-making powers that the new Act entails, which could undermine local administrative autonomy. He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach that considers state inputs, ensuring that rural employment initiatives effectively address local needs while maintaining fiscal sustainability.

Stalins call for amendments comes amid ongoing discussions about the balance of power between state and central governments in India, particularly in the management and funding of welfare schemes. As the UB-G RAM G Act is rolled out, stakeholders hope for a comprehensive review that addresses these concerns while still pursuing the overarching goal of enhancing rural employment.
