Minister Requests Central Support for Port-Led Development in Andhra Pradesh

Janardhan Reddy, a prominent figure in the Indian maritime sector, has formally requested Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, for financial support to advance several fishing harbor projects under the governments Sagarmala 2.0 initiative. This initiative aims to promote port-led development in India, enhancing the productivity and profitability of ports and coastal areas.

In addition to the fishing harbor requests, Reddy also highlighted the need for central assistance in the development of the Dugarajapatnam mega shipbuilding cluster. This cluster is envisioned to boost India’s shipbuilding capacity, create jobs, and facilitate the growth of the maritime economy by fostering domestic manufacturing capabilities.

The Sagarmala 2.0 initiative, launched by the Ministry of Shipping, includes various projects aimed at modernizing existing ports, developing new ports, and constructing coastal economic zones to increase trade and improve logistical efficiencies. Reddys appeal aligns with the governments goals of enhancing India’s maritime infrastructure and promoting sustainable fishing practices.

Further engagement and cooperation between local stakeholders, state authorities, and the central government will be critical for the successful implementation of these projects.
