Diljit Speaks Out as “Satluj,” Starring Arjun and Suvinder, Premieres on OTT

Diljit Dosanjhs film, originally titled “Punjab 95,” has officially been released under the title “Satluj” on the streaming platform Zee5, following a protracted three-year review process with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India. In an announcement, both Dosanjh and director Honey Trehan confirmed that the final cut of the film retains all original scenes, despite the CBFC initially requesting 127 changes.

The film is inspired by the real-life story of activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who is known for his efforts to expose human rights violations during the unrest in Punjab in the 1980s. “Satluj” not only faced regulatory scrutiny in India but also withdrew from the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) prior to its release, which raised concerns about its distribution and reception in international markets.

The films release marks a significant moment in Indian cinema, particularly in addressing sensitive historical themes and human rights issues. As the public eagerly anticipates its premiere, “Satluj” serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities surrounding freedom of expression in film. The project reflects ongoing societal discussions regarding accountability and representation within the narrative of contemporary Punjabi history.
