Puri Addresses E20 Fuel Speculation and Engine Damage Concerns
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri has responded to recent concerns circulating on social media regarding the use of ethanol-blended fuel, specifically addressing claims related to pest attraction and potential damage to engines. In his remarks, Minister Puri noted that the concept of utilizing ethanol as a fuel has been in practice for over a century, underscoring its longstanding acceptance in various global markets.
Puri also pointed out the efforts made by previous governments to promote ethanol use, linking it to sustainable energy initiatives and reduced carbon emissions. Recent testing conducted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) revealed that the implementation of E20 fuel, which contains 20% ethanol, results in only a minor reduction in fuel efficiency compared to traditional fuels.
Furthermore, Toyota has clarified that a specific issue raised concerning its vehicles was related to fuel contamination rather than the ethanol content itself. This statement aims to alleviate concerns among consumers regarding the safety and reliability of ethanol-blended fuels. The promotion of ethanol use is part of a larger government strategy to enhance energy security and promote cleaner fuel alternatives in India, aligning with global sustainability goals.
