CPI(M) Criticizes Government for Bhavani Island Privatization and Overlooking Krishna River Bund Residents

During a recent padayatra (foot march), a member of the states political party Secretariat called upon the government to issue land ownership pattas (documents of title) to families who have inhabited the Krishna river bund for the past fifty years.

The member emphasized that many of these families have lived on the river bund for generations, contributing to the local economy and community. They argued that granting pattas would recognize the long-standing residence and provide security and legal rights to the families, many of whom have been facing uncertainty regarding their land tenure.

The issue of land ownership, particularly in areas prone to environmental concerns such as river bunds, often involves complex socio-economic and legal challenges. The call for pattas reflects ongoing conversations about land rights and the need for equitable policies that address the needs of long-term residents. The government has yet to respond officially, but it is under increasing pressure from various stakeholders—including local residents, social activists, and political groups—to take action on this matter.
