Mumbai Rains Disrupt Mumbai-Pune Road Connection; Landslide Claims Three Lives Amid Opposition Criticism of Government Response

Severe Weather in Maharashtra: Multiple Fatalities and Traffic Disruptions Reported

Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra has resulted in significant disruptions, particularly impacting the Mumbai-Pune corridor. Reports indicate that at least three people lost their lives due to landslides triggered by the incessant rains in the region. Authorities are currently assessing the situation and rescue operations are underway.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway also faced severe repercussions as a tunnel recently inaugurated has collapsed, leading to massive traffic congestion. The collapse has raised concerns regarding infrastructure integrity, especially after such a recent launch.

In addition to the issues on the expressway, the Mumbai-Goa Highway has experienced halted traffic for approximately 12 hours due to a landslip. These weather-related incidents have prompted the opposition to criticize the state governments preparedness and response to the ongoing rains.

Local meteorological departments have reported sustained heavy rainfall throughout the region, leading to fears of further landslides and disruptions. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution while traveling.

Authorities are taking measures to clear the affected roads and restore regular traffic flow, although it may take time given the scale of the damage. The public is encouraged to refrain from unnecessary travel during this period.

As a further development, two lanes of the Mumbai-Pune Expressways Missing Link section have reopened following cleanup efforts from the landslide. However, traffic is still expected to be heavily impacted as authorities work to manage the situation.
