India Pursues Partnerships in Critical Minerals, Rare Earths, and Semiconductor Industries

India has officially launched the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) in January 2025, which is set to operate over a seven-year period from 2024-25 to 2030-31. This initiative takes a comprehensive approach to mineral resource management, extending beyond traditional mining practices.

The NCMM aims to bolster India’s energy security by ensuring a steady supply of critical minerals that are fundamental to various industries, including renewable energy technologies, electric vehicles, and electronics manufacturing. The mission includes developing a robust framework for sustainable mining practices, enhancing domestic exploration and production capacities, and fostering innovation in mineral processing.

Furthermore, the NCMM supports India’s goal of achieving self-reliance in technology by promoting research and development in mineral extraction and utilization processes. By focusing on these core areas, the mission is expected to drive industrial growth and create jobs while ensuring sustainable resource management aligned with environmental standards.

This program aligns with the broader government policy to reduce dependence on imported minerals and enhance the nation’s overall economic stability.
