India-U.K. Trade Deal Scheduled to Take Effect on July 15

### India-UK Trade Deal Set to Take Effect on July 15

The India-United Kingdom trade agreement, referred to as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), is scheduled to come into force on July 15. This deal is hailed as one of the most ambitious and aspirational free trade agreements (FTAs) between the two nations, aiming to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation significantly.

The agreement is expected to eliminate tariffs on a range of goods, facilitating exports of Indian textiles, automotive products, and other goods to the UK while reducing the cost of British imports, including cars and whiskey, for Indian consumers. The government anticipates that this deal could boost trade by billions of dollars over the coming years, fostering closer ties between the two economies.

The Indian government has expressed optimism that the CEPA will create job opportunities and strengthen sectors such as manufacturing, services, and agriculture. Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for robust digital trade, investment protections, and sustainable development initiatives.

As the deal approaches its implementation date, stakeholders, including businesses and industry representatives, are preparing to navigate the new regulatory environment introduced by the deal. This includes adhering to customs guidelines issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which covers self-certified origin declarations and frameworks for preferential tariff claims.

The India-UK trade deal is seen as a pivotal step towards solidifying a post-Brexit trade relationship for the UK while enhancing Indias presence in the global market.
