The Creation of the Iconic World Cup Trophy by an Italian Sculptor

The iconic FIFA World Cup trophy, recognized by soccer fans worldwide for several generations, was created by renowned Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga. Since its introduction in 1974, this prestigious trophy has symbolized excellence in international soccer.

The design of the trophy features two human figures holding up the Earth, emphasizing the global nature of the sport. Crafted from 18-karat gold, the trophy stands at 36.8 centimeters tall and weighs approximately 6.1 kilograms.

Gazzanigas creation replaced the original Jules Rimet Trophy, which was awarded from 1930 to 1970. As a result of Brazils third World Cup victory in 1970, the original trophy was permanently awarded to them, paving the way for Gazzanigas design to take the spotlight. The current World Cup trophy is a symbol of achievement, awarded to the national team that triumphs in the FIFA World Cup, a tournament held every four years since its inception.
