US crude oil shipments to Israel resume for the first time in 2023

A cargo of crude oil from the United States is en route to Israel for the first time in nearly three years. The Aframax tanker, named Captain John, loaded approximately 550,000 barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil in Texas on Thursday. The shipment is being transported on behalf of the global trading house Vitol.

This delivery comes at a time when the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation that connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, is experiencing significant disruptions. These disturbances have raised concerns about the stability of oil supply routes, further highlighting the importance of this shipment.

Israel has previously received crude oil shipments from the U.S., but the country has not seen a shipment of this scale in nearly three years.
