Schools and Colleges Closed in Several Districts Due to Kanwar Yatra Movement
In response to the influx of Kanwar pilgrims during the annual Kanwar Yatra, several districts in Uttar Pradesh have announced the temporary closure of educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, and technical colleges.
The districts of Meerut and Ghaziabad will observe this closure from August 4 to August 12, while Baghpat has set its closure dates from August 3 to August 12. Muzaffarnagar had previously implemented a similar closure policy. Authorities have indicated that despite the suspension of regular classes, scheduled examinations will proceed as planned.
The Kanwar Yatra is a significant religious pilgrimage for devotees of Lord Shiva, during which participants (known as Kanwariyas) travel to sacred sites, often by foot or on bicycles, carrying water from the Ganges River to offer at various temples. The increased movement of pilgrims during this period has led local authorities to prioritize public safety and manage traffic congestion by closing educational institutions.
Parents and students are advised to stay informed about any further developments regarding school operations or examination schedules.
