Director Shoojit Sircar Explains Decision to Abandon Kishore Kumar Biopic
In a recent interview with Variety India, renowned filmmaker Shoojit Sircar discussed his long-planned biopic about the iconic singer-actor Kishore Kumar, which has been officially shelved. Sircar expressed that he had always envisioned actor Ranbir Kapoor, known for his role in Ramayana, as the perfect choice to portray Kumar.
The filmmaker explained his decision to withdraw from the project after discovering that fellow director Anurag Basu was also working on a biographical film featuring Kapoor as the lead. Sircar indicated that this overlap in vision contributed to his belief that there is currently no viable opportunity to revisit the biopic in the future.
Kishore Kumar, celebrated for his versatility and significant contributions to Indian cinema, remains a revered figure, and biopics focusing on his life continue to garner interest. Shoojit Sircar is known for his previous successful films, such as Piku and October, which have received both critical and commercial acclaim. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoors portfolio includes notable films like Barfi! and Shamshera, making him one of the leading actors in the industry today. The evolving landscape of Indian cinema, along with multiple planned projects about notable figures, reflects a growing trend of biographical storytelling in Bollywood.
