Standalone profit in Q1 increases 10% year-on-year to Rs 21,121 crore, surpassing estimates.
State Bank of India Reports Significant Increase in Q1 Profit
The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, announced a standalone profit increase of 10% year-over-year (YoY) for the first quarter of the fiscal year, reaching ₹21,121 crore. This result surpassed analysts expectations, further highlighting the banks robust performance amid a competitive financial environment.
The bank’s growth was largely attributed to a healthy rise in loan growth, coupled with improvements in core income and a reduction in provisioning for bad loans.
In a more detailed assessment of its financial performance, SBI reported a profit of ₹24,113 crore, indicating a 14% increase from the previous year. This upward trend is bolstered by a lower net non-performing asset (NPA) ratio, which is the lowest the bank has seen in over two decades. The total slippages in loan accounts also declined YoY, showcasing the banks effective management of credit risk.
SBIs financial stability is further reinforced by its strong growth trajectory in assets, with total assets continuing to expand thanks to increased consumer and corporate lending. The bank’s commitment to digital banking solutions and customer service enhancements has contributed to this growth, as consumer preferences shift towards more convenient banking options.
As of the latest quarter, analysts remain optimistic about SBIs outlook, given the ongoing economic recovery and government initiatives aimed at boosting lending and financial stability in the banking sector.
