India to Increase Postgraduate Medical Seats by 5,000 by 2028-29, Bringing Total to 91,360

The Government of India has recently announced to Parliament that the country currently offers 86,360 postgraduate medical seats. Furthermore, there are plans to increase this number by an additional 5,000 seats by the academic year 2028-29 as part of a comprehensive infrastructure enhancement initiative.

This expansion is expected to be supported by increased funding and revised regulatory guidelines, which aim to bolster specialist medical training and enhance the overall healthcare capacity in India. The move addresses the pressing demand for qualified medical professionals in the country, in response to a growing population and an increasing need for specialized healthcare services.

As of now, Indias healthcare system is facing challenges in terms of medical workforce shortages and access to specialist care. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to address these issues and ensure that the healthcare system is equipped to meet future demands.
