IIT Faculty Recruitment: Over 3,500 Positions Filled, Student-Teacher Ratio Uncertain

Over 3,500 faculty positions have been successfully filled across the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) as part of a targeted recruitment initiative conducted between September 2022 and May 2026. Despite this significant recruitment progress, the recent response in the Lok Sabha has not disclosed the current faculty-to-student ratios at individual IITs. The government has emphasized a standard ratio of 1 faculty member for every 10 students, raising concerns about whether the recruitment efforts have adequately matched the rising number of students and the expansion of academic offerings.

The recruitment initiative reflects the IITs commitment to improving educational infrastructure in response to growing demands for higher education in science and technology in India.
