NCERT Awarded Deemed University Status, Education Ministry Confirms
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has officially been granted the status of an Institution Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Education. This designation came after a thorough evaluation by an expert committee from the University Grants Commission (UGC), which assessed NCERT’s qualifications for such recognition.
The approval is anticipated to enhance NCERTs capacity for educational research and innovation significantly. With the new status, NCERT will have greater opportunities to collaborate with various national and international organizations, potentially enriching its contributions to the educational landscape.
NCERT, established in 1961, has served as a pivotal body in shaping educational policies and practices in India. Alongside its new status, it will maintain its essential role as a think tank and resource institution, providing guidance and developing curricula and educational materials for schools across the country. The move is seen as a strategic step towards improving the quality of education in India through research-driven methodologies and collaborative efforts.
