DOH Advises Public on Screen Time Management to Safeguard Eye Health

Philippine Department of Health Advises Public on Screen Time Management to Protect Eye Health

The Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines is urging the public to be mindful of their screen time in order to protect their eyesight. With the increasing reliance on digital devices for work, education, and leisure, the DOH emphasizes the importance of taking regular breaks from screens and practicing the 20-20-20 rule — looking at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

Screen fatigue, eye strain, and other related issues have become more prevalent as individuals spend extended periods on smartphones, tablets, and computers. The agency suggests implementing strategies such as proper lighting, ergonomic setups, and reducing the glare from screens to mitigate potential negative impacts on eye health.

In addition to eye protection, the DOH recommends incorporating outdoor activities and physical exercise into daily routines to promote overall well-being. Although screens are a vital part of modern life, the department stresses that conscious management can help maintain healthy vision amidst increased usage.

As digital eye strain continues to pose a public health concern, continued advocacy for screen awareness is expected, particularly among children and adolescents who are increasingly exposed to digital technology.
