Over 400 kg of meat seized in two weeks during Karnataka FDA operation

Karnatakas Food Safety Crackdown: Over 400 kg of Unsafe Meat Seized

In a recent initiative to enhance food safety standards, the Karnataka Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized over 400 kilograms of meat in the last two weeks. This seizure occurred across various establishments, from government-run canteens to five-star hotels, as part of an extensive crackdown on unsafe food practices.

The Karnataka FDA conducted inspections at more than 2,000 food establishments, resulting in the discovery of numerous violations related to food safety. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with health standards and to safeguard consumer health. In addition to the meat seizures, officials have reported finding other unsafe food items, further highlighting concerns regarding food safety in the state.

As part of the crackdown, fines have been imposed on various eateries, including hotels, roadside dhabas, and warehouses, which failed to meet safety regulations. The inspections also included a specific focus on food quality and hygiene, especially at facilities serving potentially hazardous foods, such as shawarma and kebabs.

In response to these findings, the Karnataka government has expanded its food safety inspection program. New measures include the implementation of a QR code system that allows the public to report food safety violations anonymously. This initiative aims to increase public involvement in monitoring food safety standards.

Furthermore, the FDA is taking a proactive approach by increasing awareness and education among food handlers regarding hygiene practices and the importance of food safety compliance. Community engagement efforts are being initiated to bolster public confidence in food safety measures.

These actions reflect Karnatakas commitment to ensuring safe food for all residents and visitors, as authorities continue to monitor compliance and take necessary actions against violators.
