Bournvita Manufacturer Responds to FSSAI Notice on Misleading Claims
FSSAI Steps Up Crackdown on Misleading Food Claims
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is intensifying its efforts to combat misleading claims by food companies. Recently, the FSSAI issued notices to several firms, including major brands such as Nestle, PepsiCo, and Coca-Cola, for making exaggerated assertions regarding their products. In total, approximately 150 notices have been served to various food manufacturers for misleading labels and advertisements.
Among the specific claims flagged by the regulatory body are terms such as “100%” and “energy drink,” along with assertions regarding immunity benefits. As part of its guidelines, the FSSAI is committed to ensuring the accuracy of product information to protect consumer interests.
Notably, the popular brand Bournvita, owned by Mondelez, has responded by revising its product descriptions in compliance with the regulatory notice. Other companies like Amway have also taken steps to withdraw misleading claims from their offerings.
This crackdown has sparked discussions within the marketing and endorsement sectors, particularly among celebrities who are reconsidering their association with brands that may be facing scrutiny. As consumers become more aware and the regulatory framework continues to evolve, companies are being urged to reassess their advertising strategies to align with the FSSAIs standards.
In light of these developments, food manufacturers are encouraged to adhere to transparent labeling practices to maintain consumer trust and avoid potential penalties associated with misleading advertisements. The FSSAI’s proactive measures reflect an ongoing commitment to food safety and consumer protection in the Indian market.
