The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the opening of applications for eligible Higher Educational Institutions seeking recognition to offer Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programs for the academic year 2026-27. The process will accommodate sessions commencing from January-February 2027 and beyond. Institutions interested in applying are required to register on the UGC Distance Education Bureau (DEB) portal.
Once submitted, the applications will undergo a thorough evaluation to ensure compliance with UGC standards before any recognition is conferred. This initiative aims to enhance access to quality education through flexible learning modalities, in line with the governments goal of promoting higher education inclusivity.
The UGC has set certain criteria for institutions wishing to apply, including the need for accreditation, qualified faculty, and adequate technological infrastructure. By extending this opportunity, the UGC seeks to bolster the quality and diversity of educational offerings in the country.
