SAI Establishes ‘Little Japan’ in India to Provide Athletes with Asian Games Experience

SAI Establishes Little Japan in India: A Unique Training Setup for Athletes Ahead of the Asian Games

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has initiated a project dubbed “Little Japan” at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Bengaluru, aiming to provide athletes with an immersive pre-Games experience similar to that of the upcoming Asian Games. This innovative setup includes a community of container homes designed to simulate the living conditions athletes will encounter during the Games.

As part of this initiative, athletes will be staying in shipping containers that have been converted into temporary accommodation. The design serves to foster camaraderie and allows competitors to adapt to a unique living environment, mirroring the communal living arrangements in Japan where the Games are set to take place.

In addition to the housing, SAI is implementing various support systems for athletes, including access to a safeguarding hotline intended to address any concerns related to their welfare while training.

The organizational effort not only prepares athletes for logistical realities but also nurtures an understanding of Japanese culture. Activities featuring Japanese cuisine and language immersion sessions are planned, further enriching this training experience.

Indias participation in the Asian Games 2023 is significant, with a record number of athletes expected to compete. As the nation aims to elevate its performance on this prestigious platform, initiatives like Little Japan underscore a commitment to thorough preparation and support.

This approach towards athlete engagement represents a shift in training methodologies, emphasizing adaptability and cultural integration, critical for their upcoming challenges on an international stage.
