CAG Highlights Inflated Road Estimates and Underutilized Investment in Karnataka Industrial Areas
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has reported significant discrepancies in road construction estimates in Karnataka, highlighting inflated project costs as well as a substantial underutilization of funds in designated industrial areas. The audit revealed that road construction estimates were inflated by a considerable margin, raising concerns about fiscal accountability and the efficiency of public spending in the states infrastructure development.
Furthermore, the CAGs findings indicated that an amount of Rs 281 crore allocated for industrial investment in Karnataka remains underutilized. This underutilization points to potential inefficiencies in the states economic development strategies and may have implications for job creation and industrial growth in the region.
The report urges the government to address these issues promptly to enhance transparency and ensure that allocated funds are effectively utilized for intended infrastructure projects and economic development initiatives. The findings come at a time when Karnataka is aiming to bolster its industrial sector and improve its overall infrastructure to attract more investment.
Officials from the Karnataka government stated that they are reviewing the CAGs recommendations and will take the necessary steps to rectify the reported concerns, ensuring better management of resources in the future.
