Depression Intensifies Near North Andhra Pradesh Coast, Expected to Cross on Wednesday

According to meteorological reports, a weather depression currently forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and make landfall along the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has been closely monitoring the system and has indicated that heavy rainfall and strong winds are likely in coastal regions.

The depression is currently situated approximately 200 kilometers southeast of Visakhapatnam and is moving northwestward at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour. As it approaches land, meteorologists have warned of potentially severe weather conditions, including heavy to very heavy rainfall, with forecasts estimating up to 200 mm in some areas.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable coastal regions to prepare for possible flooding and to remain vigilant during the storm. Fishermen have been urged to avoid going out to sea until the weather improves. Additionally, emergency services are on standby to respond to any incidents related to the storm.

The last significant weather event in the region occurred in October 2020, when Cyclone Nivar made landfall, causing extensive damage and flooding. Local governments are coordinating to ensure that preventative measures and support systems are in place in anticipation of this weather system.
