Gautam Adani Regains Position as Indias Richest Individual, Surpassing Mukesh Ambani: Hurun Rich List

Gautam Adani has regained the title of Indias richest person, surpassing Mukesh Ambani, according to the latest Hurun India Rich List for 2026. Adanis wealth has reportedly surged by 13%, bringing his total net worth to approximately ₹9.23 lakh crore ($111 billion). This leap in wealth positions him at the forefront of Indias business magnates, after previously losing the title to Ambani last year.

The new Hurun report highlights that Adanis financial ascendance is primarily attributed to significant growth in his conglomerates sectors, which include energy, infrastructure, and logistics. The report notes that a total of 28 new individuals entered the rich list within the financial services sector, contributing to an overall rising trend of wealth among Indias elite, despite ongoing challenges related to currency depreciation that have affected 168 other Indian billionaires.

Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, saw his wealth decline, reinforcing a competitive rivalry between the two tycoons. This restructuring of wealth among these industrial giants is reflective of broader economic shifts within India, where wealth creation continues to concentrate in specific industries.

As part of its findings, the Hurun report emphasizes the resilience of Indias economy, particularly in sectors demonstrating robust growth potential, while also acknowledging the volatility in the wealth ranking caused by fluctuating market conditions and currency exchange rates.
