Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu Calls for Increased Support for Maize Farmers in Andhra Pradesh from Central Government

Amid concerns that current market prices are falling significantly below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), a call for increased government intervention has been voiced. The ongoing Rabi crop arrivals are anticipated to continue until June, prompting demands for the central governments support in addressing the financial challenges faced by farmers.

The proposal includes a request for the government to assume full responsibility for any financial losses incurred by farmers, effectively covering 100% of these losses. Additionally, there is a push to eliminate the 50:50 cost-sharing ratio that currently exists and to expand the procurement coverage from its present level of 25% to 100% of the total agricultural production.

This situation highlights ongoing challenges within Indias agricultural sector, as fluctuations in market pricing can significantly impact farmers livelihoods. The Minimum Support Price is designed to provide a safety net for farmers by ensuring a minimum return for their produce. As the Rabi season progresses, the government’s actions regarding procurement could play a crucial role in stabilizing the agricultural market and supporting the farmer community.
