Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Sends Teams to Assess Drought in Karnataka and Maharashtra

Centre to Dispatch Teams for Drought Assessment in Karnataka and Maharashtra

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the central government will send teams to assess the ongoing drought situation in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. This initiative aims to evaluate the impact of the drought on agriculture and water resources, and to facilitate necessary assistance for the affected regions.

Chouhan highlighted that both states have been experiencing significant water shortages, which have adversely affected crop yields and farmers livelihoods. The assessment teams will work in coordination with state officials to gather data on the severity of the drought and to recommend measures for relief and rehabilitation.

This announcement comes as various regions in India continue to face the repercussions of climatic changes, with anomalous weather patterns leading to prolonged dry spells. The government has previously allocated relief funds for drought-hit areas and implemented schemes to support farmers, but the current assessment aims to provide a more targeted and effective response to the challenges posed by the drought.

The central government has emphasized its commitment to monitoring and addressing the needs of communities affected by climate-related issues, particularly in agricultural states like Karnataka and Maharashtra, which contribute significantly to Indias food production.
