Arizona State requests former state chief justice to conduct independent review of hockey players collapse.

Arizona State University has appointed a former chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court to conduct an independent review of the incident involving hockey player Matthew Mayich, who collapsed during an outdoor workout in August.

The decision for the review comes as the university aims to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, during which Mayich experienced a medical emergency while training. The appointed former chief justice, who has not yet been named publicly, is tasked with providing an unbiased assessment of the events leading up to and following the collapse.

This review is part of Arizona States commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its student-athletes and to evaluate the response protocols in place during athletic training sessions. University officials have expressed their concern for Mayichs well-being and are cooperating fully with the investigation.

In addition to the review, the university is expected to analyze existing health and safety measures within its athletic programs to prevent similar incidents in the future. Mayich, a promising talent in the hockey program, has been receiving medical attention and support from the university community during this challenging time.
