Bob Hopes UFO House Originally Listed at $50 Million, Sold for $13 Million

The Palm Springs residence of comedian Bob Hope, designed by celebrated architect John Lautner in the 1970s, has been recognized for its distinctive architectural style that exemplifies mid-century modern aesthetics. Originally listed at $50 million, the estate faced challenges in attracting potential buyers, prompting a price reduction to $24.999 million. In 2016, the property was sold to billionaire entrepreneur Ronald Burkle for $13 million.

John Lautner, known for his innovative designs that often blended natural surroundings with modern living, created the Hope residence with features that include sweeping views of the Coachella Valley and expansive use of glass and concrete. The estate remains a significant piece of architectural history in Palm Springs, a city renowned for its mid-century modern homes and celebrity architecture.

Currently, the property continues to stand as a unique highlight in the region, reflecting both the legacy of Bob Hope, a prominent figure in American entertainment, and the architectural brilliance of Lautner.
