Kerala Increases Hydropower Generation as Dam Water Levels Decline to 44% During Election Season

According to recent data from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the storage levels in all hydropower dams within the state are adequate for generating approximately 1,821.7 million units (MU) of electricity. This substantial energy potential is attributed to favorable rainfall patterns in the region, contributing to the reservoirs capacity.

Additionally, the current hydropower production could help meet the increased demand for electricity during peak consumption seasons. It is also noteworthy to mention that Keralas energy mix heavily relies on hydropower, which accounts for a significant portion of the states overall electricity generation. As the state prepares for potential fluctuations in energy requirements, KSEB continues to monitor water levels and implement effective management strategies to ensure a stable supply.
