Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha Compete for 2030 Hosting Rights of Mens and Womens FIH World Cups

Three Indian states—Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha—are competing to secure the hosting rights for the 2030 FIH World Cups for both men and women. This exciting development comes as the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has opened the bidding process for these prestigious tournaments, which are set to take place in 2030.

Each of the states has a strong track record in promoting hockey and has hosted significant national and international events in the past. Odisha, in particular, has gained recognition for its successful organization of the FIH Mens Hockey World Cup in 2018 and the FIH Mens Junior World Cup in 2021. The state has invested heavily in hockey infrastructure and has developed world-class facilities, making it a strong contender for the upcoming World Cups.

Punjab, known as the birthplace of hockey in India, has a rich history associated with the sport. The state has produced numerous national and international players and has hosted various tournaments, showcasing its commitment to the game. The Punjab government is eager to leverage this legacy to attract the World Cups.

Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, has been making strides in promoting hockey through grassroots initiatives and has hosted several national championships. The state is keen to elevate its profile in the hockey world and believes that hosting the World Cups would significantly contribute to the sports growth in the region.

The FIH is expected to evaluate the bids based on various criteria, including infrastructure, experience in hosting events, and the potential to promote hockey in the respective regions. The decision on the host states is anticipated to be announced in the coming months, and all three states are preparing to present their proposals to the FIH.

As the competition heats up, the excitement surrounding the potential of hosting the World Cups is palpable among fans and stakeholders in each state. The successful bid will not only enhance the profile of the winning state but also contribute to the growth of hockey in India, inspiring a new generation of players and fans.
