Delhi Launches Arpan Kendras at 10 Metro Stations for Old Clothes Collection
Delhis Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, officially inaugurated the Arpan Kendra initiative, which aims to promote the collection and recycling of old clothes. This launch is part of a broader effort to encourage sustainable practices within the community. As a significant step in this initiative, ten metro stations across the city will serve as designated collection points for used clothing.
The Arpan Kendra program is designed to address the growing issue of textile waste and to provide residents with a convenient way to donate their unwanted garments. By implementing collection centers at busy metro stations, the government hopes to engage commuters and encourage them to participate in this eco-friendly endeavor.
During the launch, CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of recycling and sustainable living, stating that small actions, such as donating clothes, can lead to significant positive impacts on the environment. She also highlighted the benefits of reusing and recycling textiles, which not only reduce waste but also support those in need within the community.
Additionally, the clothing collected will be sorted, cleaned, and distributed to local charities and individuals facing economic hardships. Authorities plan to monitor the programs effectiveness and are optimistic about expanding it to more locations in the future.
By fostering a culture of sustainability and social responsibility, the Delhi government aims to transform not only waste management practices but also the mindset of its residents, promoting a cleaner and greener city for all.
