Karnataka Deputy CM Seeks Central Intervention for ₹22,400 Crore Drought Relief
Karnatakas Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. G Parameshwara, has appealed to the central government for assistance in addressing a significant drought situation that has adversely affected the state. He has specifically requested an allocation of ₹22,400 crore in relief funds to support farmers and communities struggling due to severe water shortages.
The ongoing drought has resulted in considerable strain on agricultural productivity, impacting livelihoods and food security across the region. In response to the dire circumstances, Deputy CM Parameshwara has highlighted the urgent need for government intervention to secure financial aid that would alleviate the hardships faced by those most affected.
During a recent press conference, Parameshwara emphasized that the drought has not only led to decreased crop yields but has also resulted in economic distress for many families. He pointed out that the financial support from the central government would play a crucial role in enabling the state to implement necessary programs and initiatives aimed at providing relief to farmers.
Additionally, the Deputy Chief Minister outlined the long-term benefits of developing sustainable water management systems and enhancing irrigation facilities to better prepare for future weather fluctuations. This, he believes, can help mitigate the impact of similar crises in the future.
The plea for support comes as Karnataka looks to navigate through an increasingly challenging climate landscape, prompting state leaders to seek proactive measures in safeguarding agriculture and rural livelihoods. The situation continues to evolve, and all eyes will be on the central governments response to the states request for drought relief funding.
