Curbs Implemented in Delhi NCR as Air Quality Remains in Very Poor Category

Authorities in Delhi-NCR have put into effect a series of restrictions as air quality continues to fall into the ‘very poor’ category. These measures include the implementation of restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) 3, which is designed to combat deteriorating air quality levels in the National Capital Region.

Over recent days, air quality metrics, including the overall air quality index (AQI), have consistently indicated alarming pollution levels. The latest data reveals that in several parts of Delhi, the AQI has surpassed 300, a threshold that places it in the ‘very poor’ category, prompting government action.

The GRAP 3 measures comprise a range of interventions, including increased restrictions on construction activities and a ban on the use of certain types of machinery that contribute to air pollution. In addition, the measures mandate that brick kilns, stone crushers, and other industrial units that do not comply with emission norms be shut down.

Officials are also encouraging the public to minimize outdoor activities and reduce vehicle usage where possible to help alleviate pollution levels. Authorities have emphasized the importance of monitoring the air quality situation closely, noting that they may escalate these measures if conditions do not improve.

Experts have indicated that while weather conditions are contributing to the stagnant air and poor dispersion of pollutants, long-term solutions will also be necessary to address the root causes of air pollution in the region. Authorities continue to explore strategic initiatives aimed at promoting cleaner forms of transportation and enhancing green cover in urban areas.
