Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: “Green Button” Campaign Gains Momentum

The Suchitwa Mission, in collaboration with the Election Commission of India, has launched a green election campaign designed to minimize waste generated during the electoral process. This initiative seeks to promote sustainable practices and encourage voters and political parties to adopt eco-friendly alternatives.

The campaign highlights the importance of reducing plastic use, managing electronic waste, and promoting the use of biodegradable materials. Activities include awareness programs aimed at educating the public on waste management and the benefits of environmentally responsible voting practices.

Suchitwa Mission, established by the Government of Kerala, focuses on enhancing cleanliness and sanitation across the state. The partnership with the Election Commission is significant as it aligns with broader national efforts to conduct elections in a more sustainable manner, reflecting growing concerns over environmental issues. By integrating ecological consciousness into the electoral framework, the campaign aspires not only to reduce the environmental footprint of elections but also to foster a culture of sustainability among citizens.
