MLC Criticizes Karnataka Governments Decision to Eliminate Third Language Marks in SSLC Examinations
Teachers of third language subjects from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts recently met with K. Vivekananda, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), to express their concerns regarding the perceived neglect of third language instruction in local schools. They highlighted issues related to limitations placed on teaching positions for third language subjects, which they believe adversely affect the quality of education.
The teachers emphasized the importance of third language instruction in fostering multilingualism and enhancing students cognitive and cultural competencies. Third languages, often seen as essential in a country as diverse as India, play a critical role in expanding students career opportunities and cultural understanding.
The meeting aimed to bring attention to these challenges and advocate for policy reforms that would ensure better support and resources for third language educators. The teachers hope that their discussion with MLC Vivekananda will prompt the education authorities to address these pressing issues and prioritize the enrichment of third language education in the region.
