AICC Files Complaint with ECI Against CPI(M) Channel for Alleged Defamation of K.C. Venugopal in Kerala Elections

Abhishek Singhvi, the chairperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) legal cell, has submitted a petition to the Election Commission of India (ECI) requesting immediate intervention regarding a social media incident. The petition claims that the creation and distribution of a manipulated image, which was circulated on various platforms and shared by Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) accounts, violates the model code of conduct established for electoral integrity.

The model code of conduct is designed to ensure fair play and maintain the sanctity of elections in India, outlining the responsibilities of political parties and candidates. Instances of misinformation and the use of fabricated imagery can undermine democratic processes and impact voter perception. This petition underscores the ongoing challenges of managing misinformation in the digital age, particularly during crucial electoral periods.
