Alcohol Prohibition Near Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri Enforced
The Odisha government has announced a new excise policy that introduces a 0.5% de-addiction cess aimed at funding initiatives for substance abuse prevention and rehabilitation. This policy, which was unveiled recently, seeks to promote responsible drinking and address the social challenges associated with alcohol consumption.
Additionally, the new regulations will prohibit the establishment of new ON shops, which sell alcoholic beverages, in rural areas. This move is intended to curb the proliferation of alcohol outlets in less densely populated regions, where access to alcohol can exacerbate social issues and impact community health.
The government’s decision reflects a growing concern over alcohol-related problems in the state and aligns with broader public health strategies to reduce substance abuse. The revenue generated from the de-addiction cess will be allocated towards campaigns and programs designed to support recovery and education on the dangers of excessive drinking.
These measures are part of a comprehensive approach to manage alcohol consumption while fostering healthier community environments throughout Odisha.
