Andhra Pradesh Aims to Provide Safe Drinking Water to All Households by 2028, According to Chief Minister
The state government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. According to State Water Resources Minister Naidu, this initiative prioritizes the operation and maintenance of rural drinking water supply systems.
Jal Jeevan Mission is a national program aimed at providing safe and adequate drinking water supply through individual household tap connections in rural areas. The mission emphasizes sustainability, aiming to ensure the continuous supply of potable water.
In the updated phase 2.0 of the mission, the focus will be on not just expanding access but also on enhancing the operational efficiency and maintenance of existing infrastructure. This effort will involve training local communities and stakeholders to take ownership of water supply systems, thus fostering long-term sustainability and improving water quality.
The MoU outlines the roles and responsibilities of both the state and central governments in facilitating the successful rollout of this initiative, including financial allocations, project management, and community engagement strategies. The collaboration is expected to address key challenges in rural water supply, improve service delivery, and ultimately enhance the quality of life for residents in these areas.
