Andhra Pradesh to Maintain Current Power Tariff for Consumers in the 2026-27 Financial Year
The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced that the state government is committed to addressing a significant revenue deficit faced by the states power distribution companies (Discoms). This revenue gap is estimated at approximately ₹15,791 crore.
The Commissions report highlights that the financial health of Discoms is critical for maintaining stable electricity supply and infrastructure development in the state. The government’s intervention aims to ensure the sustainability of these companies, which have struggled with various economic pressures, including rising operational costs and a backlog of unpaid dues.
In addition to filling the revenue gap, the state government may explore measures such as tariff adjustments, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing collections from consumers. These initiatives are essential not only for maintaining financial viability but also for investing in renewable energy projects and improving the overall electricity distribution system in Andhra Pradesh.
The Commissions announcement underscores the ongoing challenges facing Indias power sector, particularly in states where Discoms are heavily reliant on government support to meet their fiscal responsibilities.
