Banas Bio-CNG Model Receives Nationwide Attention as Gujarat Allocates ₹60 Crore for Expansion

The state government has announced its intention to establish approximately 10 Bio-CNG plants in a phased approach, partnering with cooperative milk societies. This initiative aims to promote sustainable energy solutions and waste management practices.

Bio-CNG, or Biocompressed Natural Gas, is produced from organic waste materials through a process known as anaerobic digestion. By utilizing the byproducts from dairy farming and milk processing, the government aims to transform waste into an environmentally friendly fuel alternative.

The project is expected to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, enhance energy security, and support the local agricultural economy by generating additional income for cooperative societies. As part of this plan, the government will outline the timeline and select suitable sites for the plants in the coming months, with the involvement of stakeholders from the dairy sector and environmental advocacy groups.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to transition to renewable energy sources and promote sustainable agricultural practices within the state. Further details regarding funding, technology partnerships, and projected timelines are anticipated to be released in the near future.
