Beypore Port Dredging Project Halted Due to Environmental Impact Assessment Delays

The harbor development project, initiated three years ago following a ₹11.8-crore contract from the Kerala Maritime Board, has been temporarily halted. This decision comes as a result of dredging operations encountering hard laterite rock on the seabed, which has posed significant challenges to the construction process.

Further investigations are expected to be carried out to assess alternative methods of dredging that may allow the project to resume. The initiative, aimed at enhancing maritime infrastructure and increasing trade opportunities in the region, has generated local interest due to its potential economic impact. The Kerala Maritime Board has not yet announced a timeline for the resumption of the project but remains committed to finding a viable solution to the encountered challenges.
