Bypolls: BJP Advances in Candidate Selection, Congress Considers Alternatives
By-elections have been called in Karnatakas Bagalkot and Davangere districts due to the recent passing of incumbent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) H.Y. Meti and Shamanur Shivashankarappa, respectively. Both MLAs held significant positions, having served as Ministers during former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s tenure from 2013 to 2018.
H.Y. Meti, a senior leader from the Indian National Congress, represented the Bagalkot constituency, while Shamanur Shivashankarappa from the Bharatiya Janata Party was the MLA for Davangere. Their contributions to local governance and their parties are recognized in the political landscape of Karnataka.
The by-elections will provide an opportunity for voters to select new representatives who will continue the work initiated by their predecessors. The timeline and details regarding the election process will be determined by the Election Commission of India, which is expected to announce the schedule soon.
