Coal India Plans Construction of Eight New Coking Coal Washeries with an Investment of ₹3,300 Crore
Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced its goal to operationalize eight new coal washeries by the fiscal year 2030. The initiative is part of the companys strategy to enhance coal quality and improve the environmental sustainability of its operations.
These washeries are designed to process non-coking coal, which is primarily used for power generation and other industrial applications. By investing in these facilities, CIL aims to reduce the ash content in its coal, resulting in better efficiency and lower emissions during combustion.
As one of the largest coal producers in the world, Coal India plays a crucial role in Indias energy sector. The move to establish these washeries aligns with the governments push for cleaner energy practices and the transition towards more sustainable energy sources. Enhanced coal washing processes are expected to support the industry in meeting stringent environmental regulations while maintaining supply to the country’s power generation needs.
CILs commitment to making these washeries operational by FY30 reflects its ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and adopt best practices in coal mining and processing, contributing to Indias broader energy transition strategy.
