Congress Releases Initial List of 55 Candidates for Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, Decisions Pending on MPs Seeking Candidacy

Congress leader K.C. Venugopal has stated that the party will consider the requests from Members of Parliament (MPs) wishing to contest in the upcoming elections at a later date. Currently, the party has not officially announced candidates for the Kannur and Konni constituencies, for which MPs K. Sudhakaran and Adoor Prakash have expressed their interest in running. The preliminary candidate list released by the party includes 20 sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

As the election approaches, the Congress party is likely to assess the competencies and regional dynamics before finalizing its candidates. The selection process is critical, given the partys focus on strengthening its position in Kerala, where it has faced increasing competition from both the Left Democratic Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party in recent elections. Local political analysts suggest that the partys strategy in balancing veteran politicians and fresh candidates will be vital in appealing to a diverse electorate.
