Data Indicates Significant Increase in China Border Patrols Following Galwan Clash

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has significantly increased its patrol frequency, rising from an average of 173 patrols per month in 2017-18 to approximately 500 patrols per month in the current fiscal year 2023-24. This escalation in patrol activity is noted in the Union Home Ministrys annual report for 2024-25, which was released on Wednesday.

This boost in operational capacity reflects the ITBPs ongoing commitment to securing Indias borders, particularly in the challenging terrain along the India-China border. The increase in patrols aims to enhance surveillance and response capabilities in light of evolving security challenges in the region. The ITBP, which was established in 1962, is primarily responsible for border security in the northern mountainous regions and has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability along the border areas. This ramp-up in patrols may also coincide with heightened geopolitical tensions in the region, underscoring the importance of vigilant border management.
